Housing

Sarah Daniel
Housing Officer
jcrhousing@cai.cam.ac.uk

So I’m your GCSU Housing Officer, and as such, I represent the student body over matters relating to college accommodation and facilities available to students throughout college. I’m also the person you go to when there’s a problem with your room.

Maintenance

If there’s a specific problem with your room, your toilets, showers, or gyp room, please get in touch with me. I’ll let the appropriate people (the Maintenance team, the Housekeepers or the Outside Porters) know, and they’ll come around and fix it for you.

NOTE: When you’re letting me know, if you could clearly state whether or not you are happy for the Maintenance team or Porters or whoever to enter your room (even if you’re not there), then that would speed things up greatly. And if you’d rather you were there when they came around, can you please state suitable times. (It’s a privacy/consent bureaucracy thing…) Thanks!

Alternatively, please contact Caius Maintenance directly with works@cai.cam.ac.uk.

Vacation Residence

In general, College doesn't expect students to stay in college accommodation during vacations, but if you need to stay in Cambridge you must obtain approval from your DoS for academic purposes and Tutor for any other reason. From 2010 onwards, you can opt to have extended rent of your room, including the Christmas and Easter breaks. Please contact the College or myself for more information.

Vac Res forms are available from Yvonne Holmes in R Staircase, Tree Court. The form must be completed at least two weeks before the end of Full Term and signed before returning to Yvonne Holmes.

Vac Res rent in 2009/10 was £14.05 per night, though this may change. Please note that you should not expect to be allocated your term-time college room, and you may have to relocate to another part of college.

Housing Guide

We are currently introducing a new, snazzier online Housing Guide and Balloting system, so bear with us. This should be in place by Balloting Season (in January), but like all things College related, may be subject to delays/problems. Please note that this does not apply to Freshers, who will be randomly allocated a room, and is not on the Housing Guide; you will have to wait until you get your offers to find out about your room.

To current 2nd and 3rd year students: could you please take a few photos of your room and send them on to me. It will make the new Housing Guide a lot easier to use in future! Thanks.
